The job is more than dealing cards

A dealer runs the game, handles wagers and payouts, communicates decisions and follows the employer’s procedures. Speed helps only when it comes with accuracy. A useful practice target is a clean, understandable round: clear announcements, correct totals, tidy chip handling and consistent settlement.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics describes training, customer service and arithmetic as relevant to gambling service work. Hiring and licensing requirements depend on the role and location. Treat a particular casino’s vacancy and local licensing authority as the sources for eligibility.

Three low-cost practice drills
Skill Exercise Check
Mental totals Read pairs and three-card hands aloud Count aces flexibly without hesitation
Payout arithmetic Calculate 3:2 profit on $10, $20 and $50 Answers: $15, $30 and $75
Clear communication Explain a push and return a pretend stake Describe the outcome without implying profit

Questions before paying for training

Ask what games the course teaches, how much supervised practice it includes and whether the advertised price covers all fees. Find out whether a prospective employer provides its own training, requires an audition or accepts the course. A promise of placement is different from a confirmed job offer.

During an audition, unfamiliar house procedure is a reason to ask for instruction, not to improvise. For home practice, use ordinary cards and counters. Learn the order of a round before trying to reproduce professional speed. Do not confuse player basic strategy with dealer procedure: the dealer follows the prescribed drawing rule.

The dealer has A + 6. Should you choose hit or stand from a player strategy chart?

No. Follow the table’s dealer soft-17 rule. S17 stands; H17 hits. Player charts answer a different question.

Keep job claims current

This guide does not quote a universal salary, course duration or age requirement. Tips, schedules, local rules and employer policies can materially affect the role. Compare current vacancy details and written course terms before committing time or money.
