History Of MGM Grand
The MGM Grand was opened in 1993. It is currently owned by the MGM Mirage company which owns many of the top hotels in Las Vegas. The MGM Grand has 30 floors and spans 6.6 acres of premium land on the Las Vegas strip. The MGM Grand has 5,044 rooms with an additional 3 towers. The MGM Grand was built on the land that Marina Hotel occupied before Kirk Kerkorian bought the land in 1990. He later demolished the building and built the MGM Grand on the prime real estate.
The MGM Grand had a theme park called the MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park behind the hotel which was managements attempt to make the Hotel and Casino appeal to families. It did not perform well and in 2002 it was later made into a hotel and condominium complex called The Signature. MGM Grand made changes through out the 90’s and into the 2000’s to appeal to a more mature audience.
The MGM is located across the way from New York New York and near by Tropicana, Hooters and Excalibur.

MGM Grand Sportsbook
The MGM Grand Sportsbook is one of the biggest on the Las Vegas Strip. They have multiple projection screens with the top games in addition to the 50 plasma TV’s covering other sports games including horseracing.
Football playoffs is a great time to go to the MGM Grand Sportsbook. Fans from either team watch the games intently with the occasional friendlily banter between bettors. There is nothing like watching a touch down and hearing the cheering of one crowd and the groan of another.
