Maine Approves Introduction of Spanish 21 in Oxford Casino

The Maine Gambling Control Board has approved the introduction of Spanish 21 to the portfolio of table games at Oxford Casino at a board meeting held on Tuesday.

The rules of Spanish 21 are similar to those of standard blackjack, but there are slight differences that set the two games apart. Spanish 21 is played with decks from which the ten cards are removed; besides, the betting rules vary greatly.

According to Patrick Fleming, executive director for the Gambling Control Board, Oxford Casino acquired the rights to Spanish 21 from another company.

Jack Sours, general manager and vice president of Oxford Casino, said that the casino decided to introduce Spanish 21 on player demand, adding that the casino expects the game to become very popular. He also stated that a blackjack table in the casino will be used for Spanish 21.

A dealer from Oxford Casino was about to demonstrate the game, but Matt Dyer, a member on the board, said that there is no need for it, adding that it is more important to know if the game is approved in other states. If the game was approved by other states, the board need not think twice about approving it, he said.
