Kanawha Valley College Launches New Course For Blackjack Dealers

The Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College (KVCTC) has trained hundreds of people to become blackjack dealers in the past.

The KVCTC has just announced a new training course for aspiring blackjack dealers which will run in two parallel sessions from March 12 to April 27 (Monday through Friday – 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.)

The 80 hour course is designed to provide students a comprehensive introduction to various aspects of a blackjack dealer’s job like the rules and regulations governing the game, dealing, security and an overview of irregularities. Particular attention will be paid to imparting totaling skills, handling and cutting of chips, shuffling and placement of cards.

The registration fee for the course is $980. Upon successful completion of the training participants will be put through an audition. Once the training and audition are over the Lottery Commission will carry out a credit and criminal background check in addition to a drug test before awarding the blackjack dealer certification.

Enrollment for the course can be done in person at the Workforce Development Office situated at the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center during this week between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
